that previous technique to trick your brain in seeing 3D also works with really old photos like this one from the state library of victoria:

the duke of york dropped by and george rose (i assume of rose stereographs) made heaps of ‘stereographs’ of the visit. i chose this one because it shows off the 3D really nicely

also have a look at the other photos on the state library‘s site..just amazing, if you like that sort of thing :)
